Struggles You Face When You Dare to Go Solo
Running our own online business can feel overwhelming. For many of us, we are single-handedly managing everything from marketing to customer service, so I wanted to acknowledge some of the struggles we face when our businesses have one employee namely us…
There can be a lot of work. The volume of work can feel overwhelming because we are wearing so many hats and so we spend lots of time working and little time planning. We also don’t look after ourselves which is oxymoronic when you consider that we are the one and only resource for our business.
Often when we start, we are low on capital and can’t afford to pay experts to help us set up and run our business, so we become the experts. We must invest time and energy in learning all things techy, marketing, bookkeeping and sales to deliver our product and it costs us time, energy and sometimes business opportunities.
Because we are wearing so many hats, often we jump around a lot in our business. We start the day working on increasing our leads and experience a glitch in our website, so we switch hats and lose valuable concentration, focus and ultimately productivity.
We can miss out on opportunities for growth because our time and attention are spread so thin over all these functions. We no longer have the time and mental space for the creative thinking and innovation that may have inspired us to start our business. When you’re bogged down in mundane admin tasks it’s hard to make room for inspiration and ideation which is going to help you grow.
The purpose of this blog is not to deter people from starting their own businesses. The intent is to create more awareness about the struggles we all encounter so we can better prepare for the roadblocks ahead. For every struggle outlined, there are solutions that can be implemented that support and nurture our business growth.
It can be hard to find and create answers to those problems when you are bogged down in work and that’s where I come in. I help you create the time you need in your business to start managing it like a CEO instead of a disgruntled employee.
One of my favourite Albert Einstein’s quote is “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them” and I like to think as a coach I can help my clients tap into their higher-level thinking to help solve them.
