What to do when you're over-committed...

Superhero Solopreneur

I have a client who is the epitome of the modern female solopreneur. She’s an ambitious entrepreneur committed to growing her business while also being a caring mother and partner, devoted daughter and active community member.

She struggles with juggling business deadlines against a backdrop of unending family needs. She wants to be there for everyone but feels drained, working late nights just to catch up.

Her story isn’t unique. Many women running their own businesses find themselves pulled in multiple directions, not just by their companies and clients, but by the demands of being a parent, daughter, sibling, and manager of the local soccer team!

They are superheroes without capes, often stretching themselves thin to the detriment of their own well-being. Because when you try to wear all the hats, you end up serving everyone except yourself.

This constant stretch between roles can lead to:

• Burnout: Continuous long hours and lack of rest lead to burnout, which can show up as physical and mental exhaustion, impacting your ability to make decisions and stay productive.
• Resentment: While you start with the best intentions, over time, resentment can build up when you feel your own needs and passions are being sidelined.
• Decreased Quality of Work: Spreading yourself too thin often means that neither your business tasks nor your personal commitments receive the best of you.

Recognising these pitfalls is the first step toward change. However, the thought of adding more "strategies" or "tasks" to your already packed schedule can seem daunting. So, here's just one simple yet transformative step to start with:

Start with 'No'.  It’s okay to pass.

You don’t have to accept every request or invitation in your business or personal life.
It's not about shirking responsibilities or letting people down; it's about recognising that your time is finite and precious.

Before agreeing to any new commitment, pause. Ask yourself, "Is this essential? Does it align with my priorities?" If it doesn't, give yourself permission to decline.

In embracing the power of 'No,' you're not just freeing up your schedule—you're giving yourself the space to breathe, focus, and excel in what truly matters to you.

For all the superwomen out there, remember that being overcommitted to everything except yourself opens the door to burnout. Your well-being isn't just a personal necessity; it's a professional strategy.

Take that step today—because you're worth it.
